McNabb Park

The revitalization of McNabb Park transformed a dated space into an all-ages destination while responding to the interests of the immediate community. This active, mixed-use open space is located in the dense and vibrant community of Centretown, whose residents played an essential role in shaping the revitalization of the park through community meetings and consultations.

With a prominent entrance on Bronson Avenue, the park serves as a modern and active space viewed by many as they traverse the City of Ottawa from the Airport Parkway to downtown. The park is a welcome amenity space for the surrounding community and an extension of the well-used McNabb Community Centre.

The Centretown community has a rich urban character and historic form. New materials were carefully selected to match those of the original park, hearkening back to the era in which the community was originally built. Clay pavers match the red brick homes in the surrounding area, while ornamental fencing recalls the wrought iron features still present here and there throughout the neighbourhood. Armour stone features prominently in old and new sections of the park, while modern, durable furnishings add a contemporary flair.

Cet espace ouvert actif et polyvalent est situé dans le quartier dense et animé du centre-ville, où les habitants ont joué un rôle essentiel dans la revitalisation du parc via des réunions et consultations publiques.

Avec une entrée principale sur l'avenue Bronson, le parc est un espace contemporaine que beaucoup cotoient lorsqu'ils traversent la ville depuis la promenade de l'aéroport jusqu'au centre-ville. Le parc est un espace d'agrément pour la communauté locale ainsi qu’une extension du centre communautaire McNabb, largement fréquenté.

Le centre-ville se caractérise par une forte densité urbaine et un tissu historique bien établi. Les nouveaux matériaux ont été sélectionnés pour correspondre à ceux du parc d'origine. Les pavés d'argile sont assortis aux maisons de briques rouges des environs, tandis que les clôtures ornementales rappellent les éléments en fer forgé encore présents dans le quartier. La pierre de taille occupe une place importante dans les anciennes et les nouvelles sections du parc, tandis que du mobilier urbain contemporain et durable ajoutent une touche de renouveau au quartier.
